Overview
The latest update is focused on Avid Panel stability with major fixes to Quickture’s methods for generating cuts. Quickture uses AAFs to send our cuts to Avid and in some circumstances, the AAFs were bad, leading to crashes. We also identified a Nexis related issue on Windows that was fixed. Avid users should expect a much improved experience!
We’ve also made some improvements to our transcript search that will make it easier to find lines and reveal where they are in the context of your transcript.
Global Updates
Spacebar in transcript search opens and closes the transcript - Users experienced an issue where typing a space in the search field of the transcript opened and closed the transcript view. This has been resolved. Go nuts with the spaces!
Better context in Transcript Searches - We improved the ability to see the context of your search results in transcript searches. Icons indicating non-matching content above, below, or both all you to open the context quickly to see where your matching line is in the transcript.
Discuss Mode for Guided Edit and Multi Edit - For users with the Discuss feature, we separated the Guided Edit and Multi Edit Discuss tabs so users could have separate conversations about a single sequence or multiple sequences.
Improved Descriptions in Child Edits - We added some details to the Child Edit list so you can more easily identify child sequences.
Clearer Installer and Helper Apps - Our Avid Panel requires a Helper app to be running whenever you’re using Quickture, but we called it an Installer… which was confusing! We’ve clarified that the Quickture Avid Panel app is a Helper, and needs to be running, and made other installer improvements.
Avid Fixes
AVID - Crashes caused by bad AAFs - Users were experiencing crashes caused by bad AAFs related to certain kinds of audio tracks. These have been fixed. If you experience crashes in Avid MC that continued even when the Quickture Panel is not loaded, these may be caused by a bad Quickture generated AAF. While this bug has been fixed, in order to continue using your old project you should delete all Quickture generated edit (not the original raw sequences).
AVID - Edited Sequences Not Appearing in Bin - This bug appeared as completed edits that never showed up in the bin. It has been resolved with a fix to our AAF generator.
AVID - Jump to Timecode in older Mac OS - With this bug, users of older versions of Mac OS were unable to click a timecode to jump to the timecode in their Media Composer sequence. We applied a fix for older generations of Mac OS that should solve this issue.
WINDOWS AVID - Crashes on Nexis - Users on Nexis systems in Windows were experiencing crashes that we believe were caused by Quickture saves to the Nexis system. We’ve updated our saving system to limit activity to the Nexis and hopefully resolve this issue.
